think vdw forces are overcome if they're intermolecular, whereas these vdw forces are between sheets so are broken?

Is there really a difference between overcoming and breaking intermolecular forces?

It is simply best to avoid saying "break" as it usually is followed by "bond" which will lose you a mark if you are referring to IMF.

Best to sever the link between the phrase "break" and all thing IMF.
