Edinburgh Uni - Can't find accommodation in advance for 2nd year

Hi all, me and 2 friends have been looking for a place to stay next year. It's proving really difficult to find a place, there's very little available in Edinburgh generally and literally every single one of the places we've contacted have said they aren't looking for lettings that far in advance (would have to have us move in within a month which we can't do). We've been recommended to wait until a couple months before we want to move in to start looking but I've heard of people getting accoms sorted already? I have no idea how, it just seems impossible to get a place for September. Any advice?

Hey! Not sure if you would be interested but I have an opening for two people right now in June as me and my friend are moving out from the same student accommodation flat. I could try to get another room available but in the worst case your friend could get another flat in the same accom!

If you want to get a flat sorted in advance, you do usually have to be prepared to move in and start paying rent earlier - this might be what others have done. There is so much competition I’d recommend starting now and taking what you can get, even if it means moving in June and paying rent over the summer. By the time it gets closer to September there will be even more competition for flats and the prices will shoot up in the panic to get a place before term starts. Even if you start looking and applying for every flat you see advertised now, you might still not manage to get accepted into one for several months, it’s a mad market!
