SFE Application

Hi!

I currently live in London, I've entered UK in November 2019 on Tier 1 visa. We have applied for visa extension (settled status) around two years ago and still waiting on the decision from home office. We will be able yo apply for ILR (indefinite Leave to Remain) in June 2024. I have taken a gap year due to ongoing visa application with Home Office, as I knew that I wouldn't be able to receive Student Loan. This year I have applied again and one of the universities I applied gave me a Home status whilst another university gave me an international. I cannot appeal the students fees that have been given me by that university as I don't have more information form what I have already submitted. But I was wondering if I provide this university with an email from Home Office that our application is still in the process, do you think they might change the fee status? And if I do appeal, how long will it take?

I am also unable to apply for the Student Finance in time. Our interview with the Home office is on 14th of May and the application for student loan closes on May 17th. I have read on one of the Universities websites that it is possible to apply after the deadline. and that it might take longer to get approved, is it true? Would the Student finance accept a copy or an official email from Home office about out ongoing application? Or some sort of letter from our lawyer that is leading the application process?

Any help or advise or any information would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you!!

Hi there, the deadline is a soft guideline and not an end date. You do have 9 months from September (if that's when you're looking to start the course in 2024), to apply for the funding. However, applications can take 6-8 weeks to process so be advised depending on when you submit the evidence you may experience delays in your payments. Regarding appealing fee status from the university, this is between you and the university so we wouldn't be able to advise on this. Thanks, Jason

Hi there,

It's up to the university what they will charge you for Tuition Fees. SFE doesn't have any impact on this.
If the course starts in the 24/25 academic year, the guideline for applying is the 17th of May but you can still apply after this. The deadline for applying is 9 months from the start of the academic year. The later you apply the later your finance may be.

Thanks,
Claire
