Nhs roles

Hi, I have just finished my BTEC qualification. I wanted to apply for a job at a hospital. Anyone have any advice on what roles I could get into? I am looking at studying pharmacy but want some NHS experience too

The easiest role to get into would probably be a HCA (healthcare assistant). You might have to look at the requirements, but potentially becoming a nursing assistant or a phlebotomist (with further training) could be another route. You could also look into some non-hospital healthcare areas, such as becoming a mental health support worker or a carer.

There are more than 300 jobs you could do in the NHS.
Some are with patients but many are not.
Also, some require specific qualifications, while others don’t.

To start with, I suggest you look at the NHS careers website:

https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk

You mentioned pharmacy. There are many jobs in the pharmacy service, at different levels. Have a look, decide what you’re interested in, you can then check if you have the qualifications or need to undertake more studies. Some hospitals offer training for pharmacy support staff. There may be support staff apprenticeships at level 2 or 3.
As a previous poster mentioned, vacancies are advertised on the nhsjobs website.

You didn’t mention what your BTEC was or the academic level?

If you are expected to have some experience before applying for a particular job, contact the head of volunteers at a local hospital. Their details should be on the hospital website. They should be able to help you, possibly in relation to pharmacy.

Without a degree, any band 3/4 job, but I’d look at band 4, as often they do degree apprenticeships through the NHS too. Go onto www.Jobs.nhs.uk and you should find some!

I have a friend who did this and went into lab work (not sure of the actual name of the job, sorry!!) But she’s now on 24k a year and LOVES it.
