Uni finance

So I have been recently accepted to study radiography at uni, it is part of the exemption list and so I expect that I can still get a loan even though I have previously used 2 years for a different degree I dropped out of.

The problem is that although I should be financially okay during the degree, I have only been accepted because I will have to do a foundation year first which is not radiography specific, but more for allied health professionals. As I have already got a foundation year qualification, I cannot get a student loan for that year. However even if I work part time there is no way I can afford the tuition fees. Is there anyone who can give advice for my situation? I know that an advanced learner loan exists but I don’t know enough about it yet and if it could be an option to cover my fees. I really don’t want to let this opportunity go because this is my second chance at graduating for a degree which has been my future goal and I really don’t want to go through another application.

Hi Nicole,

Have you spoke to the Advance Learner Loan team regarding your eligibility? I would also advise speaking to the university directly to see if they have any funding you may be eligible for through them. Thanks, Jason

Thanks. The course itself is an exception. So when you go onto your 3 year course you'd be funded for this as long as you are not already registered in the field you're looking to apply to. Thanks, Jason

Hi again, I have just received an email and spoke to an officer on the sfe website that I cannot get funding. I have now switched to study Radiotherapy and Oncology but as far as I was aware, it was still on the list of exemption from elq. The officer told me that Radiotherapy alone is exempt but not Radiotherapy and Oncology. Please can you explain to me why this is because I am so worries that I cannot afford to study anymore

Hi there. Can you confirm the full name of the Radiography and Oncology course and university? Will the new course be full time or part time? How many years will it be? When does the new course start? Thanks, Leah.

Thank you. I have check this course for you an this course is exempt from our previous study rules. So, you can receive SFE funding for this course for a 2nd degree. Please note this is general advice and a full assessment would need to be carried out for your eligibility for the loan. Thanks, Leah.
