Hi there,

Great to hear you are considering Loughborough 🙂

I study Psychology at Loughborough so can give you some insight. The rankings for Psychology at Loughborough are high. The facilities at Loughborough are amazing- not just for sport but for academics too. I personally really enjoy the course here as you have the opportunity to learn many aspects of Psychology through many different modules. If you haven't already I would recommend taking a look at 'What you'll Study' on the course page to see the range of modules you will study. You can also choose some optional modules, so you can tailor the course to be what you want. I found it really useful to compare these modules with other Universities I was considering to see which course would suit me best. If you are considering doing a placement/year abroad Loughborough is great as they offer so much support in searching and securing a placement/year abroad. They also have strong industry links within the UK and internationally. I found this support particularly helpful when I was looking and interviewing for placements.

I have also enjoyed my optional modules as I have had the opportunity to learn knowledge in sport and educational psychology which I have really enjoyed and this has helped me decide where I want to take my degree.

I hope this gives you some insight. If you have any questions please do ask 🙂

Hi there, I'm Claire and I'm a second-year psychology student here at the University of Bath! 🙂

It is true that the course at Bath has undergone a recent curriculum transformation, to improve the quality of the course whilst keeping in mind the mental health of the students. My cohort is actually the first to study this new degree, so I can answer any questions you have regarding it! You can find out more about the compulsory modules that the new degree offers by looking at our course page.

Unfortunately, the course page doesn't offer specific information regarding the optional modules on offer here, as they can change slightly year by year. However, the optional modules usually include topics within psychology, social policy, education or management for second year and health psychology, developmental psychology, applied psychology and clinical psychology in final year. For example, this year the second year options offered included Health Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Sociology of Intimacy and Relationships, Managing HR and Marketing.

The University of Bath Psychology course is a consistently high ranking course that is very reputable. It's also important to note that the course focus here is more scientific than other universities, meaning that you tend to write more lab reports than essays and the optional modules within applied psychology tend to be more biological. So it's important to consider whether this would be right for you. I personally enjoy the more scientific focus on offer here, and love learning about clinical psychology and exploring bio psychology and neuroscience through my optional modules!

As you are aware, we do offer a work placement here, but it's incredibly important to know that if you are going to apply here, you should apply for the course with placement (even if you weren't sure whether or not you'd like to do one). This is because if you apply for the 3 year course, there is no way to switch onto the 4 year course if you change your mind. However, you can always drop a placement year if you decide against doing a placement. The placement team here is incredibly supportive, giving you guidance on how to write an effective CV and cover letter, support with interview preparation, as well as offering 1-2-1 sessions whenever you need to speak to someone regarding placement. The placement scheme here is known to be one of the top placement schemes in the country.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask me anymore questions 😊

~Claire 🙂
