How does a boarding student give address on student finance application form

I have been overseas since July 2023 on a gap year doing some travelling and learning a foreign language. I am currently applying for student finance for my undergraduate course starting in Sept. Is gap year considered ''holiday'' or living overseas?

I also suffer from ADHD, do I need to declare this on my information when applying for student finance? It is asking all sorts of questions such as disability related benefits.

Many thanks.

Hi there,

Have you studied previously? If you are on a gap-year it would not be classed as a holiday.

Thanks, Ross

I am due to start my first year undergraduate degree this Sept. I was a boarding student in England from 07/09/2021 until 30/06/2023. I lived with my parents in England during school holidays during these two years. Do I need to separately declare those periods of staying at home with my parents during those two years?
Currently I have been overseas on a gap year since July 19th 2023. Do I need to declare this on student finance form?

Many thanks.

Hi there. If you are asking about the 3 years address history/residency in the UK then yes, all of the above needs to be confirmed including dates/addresses if you move within the UK all information has to be provided on the form. Thanks, David

Hi David, thanks for your reply. Do I need to list the half term holidays that I went home from the boarding school to live with my parents, too?

Hi Ross, after I added ten address changes which include all the half term holiday moves between school and home until May 2022, the student finance website is not allowing me to add any more address change. It seems a bit laborious to enter every single move including half term holiday. Is there any possibility of just listing Sept 2021-June 2023 as boarding at school, and then adding a note saying living at home address with parents during school holidays and also giving the home address.

In addition, I can't save my current entries with address changes, which means I will have to re-enter everything again if I can't complete it now in one go.

Please advise what I should do? Many thanks.

Hi there,

Put the addresses in that you can online to complete the application, and once submitted you can write a cover letter to explaining you full address history and upload this online under the evidence upload option. This link shows you how here https://youtu.be/rOMx_EG5JWk

Thanks,

Thank you so much. My dad is trying to fill out his financial information to support my application. The form is asking him to declare earned income under taxable threshold such as investments for the tax year 2022/2023. My dad holds a stocks and shares ISA account. He earned a small amount of dividends from the shares, then he sold some of the shares and made a bit of profit. Did he need to declare the dividends and also the profit of selling the shares under his ISA account?

In addition, the rest of the shares he held depreciated quite a lot but he didn't sell them during the tax year of 2022/2023. Does he need to take the depreciation into consideration, too?

Is there any guidance on this from student finance?
Many thanks.

Hi there, it's just any profits from dividends that would be declared as an ISA would typically be tax free. Thanks, Jason

Thank you, so even the dividends from the stocks and shares of the ISA account need to be declared? Many thanks.

Hi Ross, I am due to start uni this Sept.

Hi there,

Thanks, the gap year counts as living overseas.

You only need to indicate ADHD if you want to apply for DSA, or if you get PIP or a similar benefit.

Thanks, Graeme
