Would going to Keele not be worth it?

Hi! I was wondering if going to non-russel group uni was worth it. I don't want to come across like l'm shaming or too good for non-russel group unis (that is most definitely not the case I didn't think it mattered that much) but everyone else seems to act like it's not worth it. To make a long story short I was diagnosed with depression this year which has affected my grades greatly (currently on Cs and Bs) and most my unis require an A in maths for my degree (maths and philosophy). Keele only requires a BBC (B in maths) which I think is what I'm most likely going to get and I honestly don't want to go through the whole process of retaking my A-levels and reapplying and such. So I guess what l'm asking is does it actually matter what uni you go to? Also (sorry to be annoying) I was also wondering if you had advice on how to drastically improve in a level maths and chemistry? If anyone has any tips, especially in relearning/understanding organic chemistry, or they themselves have gone from a low grade to an A in any of these subjects l'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you for reading!

Hi there, I'll be going to Keele University this year September! I totally understand how you feel! My mindset used to be that it is Russel group or nothing but I did my research and realised Keele is actually really lovely university!
It is in the Golden Quadrangle of the top 15 universities in England that excel in both research and teaching. You will be taught by people in the top of their field and that are doing research to make the world a better place!
It's a highly sought after place to study in places such as Canada and India!
Not to mention that it is also in a beautiful location!
I have spoken to current students and the support you get is amazing! They care for the students.

To be honest, it doesn't really matter what University you go to but I wouldn't think of Keele as a "well I guess this is my only option."

I hope that helps a little

Hi thank you so much for replying! You already seem to be in love with Keele! I love the look too (I’ve always wanted to live in a village lmao) and I was worried about the teaching quality I’m glad you’ve heard great things! I was feeling so panicked about the whole obsession around the reputation of unis and if my degree was worth it and all but I feel much better about Keele now. Thank you again! I hope you enjoy your years at Keele next year! (Let me know if it’s as lovely as we’re hoping!!)

Might be a bit late to answering this, but a lot of unis will take in the context of depression into account and would have likely offered you a contextual offer (lowering grade requirements), if you had informed them of this.

Let me know where you got into - I have applied for the same course at Keele.

Hi thank you for your reply! I got into my firm (university of Birmingham) for the same course but I would’ve been more than happy to go Keele. Good luck with your exams (if you have them soon) and I hope you enjoy the course and Keele!!!
