Student Finance after living abroad more than 3 years.

Hi,
I am a UK National, and have lived in UK for 10 years before living abroad from ages of 14-18 (2018-2021). I returned to the UK when I was 18 and started my MEng (4 Year course) in 2021-2022 academic year. I have now been a resident in the UK for three consecutive years once again. Am I able to apply for student finance for the 2024-2025 academic year or am I still ineligible due to living abroad previously?

Thanks.

Just a further clarification - when I lived abroad it was in a non-EU country.
Hi there. Where were you living while abroad? What was the reason for living there? Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah, I was living there due to to my fathers work assignment. We were ordinarily resident in the UK, maintaining our owned properties in the UK throughout those 4 years. We were living in Oman. Thanks for the help.

Thanks and when are you looking to start the course? Is it a full time undergraduate course? Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason, I should have clarified. I will be entering my 4th and final year of my full time undergraduate course. Is it possible to receive student finance for this final year or because I didn't apply for it before it would not be possible? My question is really about the wording of 'you’ve been living in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 years in a row before the first day of the first academic year of your course (apart from temporary absences such as holidays)' ?

Hi there,

If you've self funded the first 3 years of the course we'd still need to go off the first Academic Year. So if you started in 21/22 Academic Year we'd need you to of been in the UK For the 3 years prior to 2021.

Thanks, Ross
