Is SOAS or Queen Mary better for mental health support?

I have researched both universities and the support that they offer rather thoroughly, both seem good for different reasons: for SOAS the wide range of therapies and for Queen Mary the support for students with previously diagnosed mental illnesses. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience: positive or negative with mental health in both of these universities. I am taking a gap year at the moment, (I applied to university after Year 13 and I already have my A Levels) so the university I choose will be the one I go to, so I really want to have as much information as I can before making my decision. I have dealt with mental illness in the past and so mental health support at the university I go to is really a massive factor in what decision I make.

Hello, it is a big decision to make and its good that you are researching thoroughly! For SOAS our Student Advice and Wellbeing team are really supportive. They offer one on one sessions with our in house professional therapists who practice a range of therapies. SOAS also partners with external organizations to make sure every student is getting the support they need. You can learn more and get in touch with the team here: https://www.soas.ac.uk/student-mental-health-and-wellbeing-service
In terms of academics, I have personally found the teaching staff to be very understanding and supportive, helping me through assignments. There is a wealth of academic support from both staff and students, plus there is a process called mitigating circumstances where any event or situation that impacts your ability to study will be taken into account and you may get an extension or opportunity to resubmit.
Hope this helps, C (BA International Relations and Japanese)
