Hi Anonymous #1,

So in general, seminars have less students. At Exeter it tends to be around 12-16 students. They’re more interactive and you can ask questions about the content and required reading, etc.

Lectures tend to have far more students, sometimes going into the hundreds! Normally the lecturer presents slides and talks about them, and students make notes. On my course lectures are recorded and the PowerPoint slides are online, and if I have any questions I can email the lecturer!

This varies from university to university, but I imagine it’s largely the same.

In my day, seminars involved students presenting short papers for the group (3-20) to discuss. Lectures, as above.
