Maths vs Maths Apps

Okay so for some reason any time I read about the entry requirements for Glasgow I thought Maths Apps was mentioned as a replacement for Maths/Physics, however when I reread this yesterday I realised it only says Maths or Physics. I’m in S4 right now and in the middle of my Nat 5s. Does Apps still count as Maths? Or should I ask my guidance councillor if it’s too late to change my decision? And I know in Edinburgh you can have either, but does traditional Maths look better on an application? I know that if I can’t take Maths higher this year I could pick it up in S6 but I was really hoping to have a class just for fun to take off the pressure, and there’s no point in me taking Apps if I need to take Maths a year later. There obviously aren’t many vet schools in Scotland and I could never afford to go to school in another country so I need to be eligible for as many schools as possible.

Most uni's/ schools will not accept maths apps in place of regular maths, if you want to be eligible for as many uni's or schools as you can you will have to take regular maths as this is generally the standard they look for. I would have a chat with your guidance teacher and see if you can get it changed, and whether your maths teacher thinks your capable of regular maths. Best of luck!

Hi Nicole,

Glad to hear you managed to get switched to Maths. We cannot accept Applications of Maths as a replacement for maths for our Veterinary programme.

Thanks,
