Hi, I’m a Durham applicant for 2024 and I wanted to know which clubs at Durham are active. I am aware of a very long list on the Durham SU website but there is no way these can all be active, week clubs, right?
Also, it’d be great to know which clubs are the most popular (is there such a thing?) and if anyone has any personal recommendations!!

Hi there
I highly doubt anybody can tell you which clubs are super active because there are more than 250 of them. Each society will have a different frequency of holding events. I was part of Disney which held events every Tuesday while the Law Society held events randomly. Apparently, Curry Club and Banana Society get a lot of clout, but I think that's only because of their marketing. The societies for different nationalities are also super popular and there's a big range of them. Also anybody can join these societies irrespective of whether you're from that country or not, so you get to experience a different culture!
I would say, have a look on the website and see if any of the societies particularly interest you. Then go and look them up on Instagram as all societies advertise their socials on it. By that, you can judge how often they meet and what kind of events they hold. You'll also have the opportunity to meet their execs at the Freshers Fair in your first week at Durham so you can meet the societies you're interested in and explore new ones
