Music Production

Hey!!
I'm starting Music Production this year and would love to find other people on the course! It'd be nice to know people that are joining when I am, or even just getting some insight onto the course from people already doing it )
Hi,

Congratulations on your place at YSJ!

I don’t personally study Music Production but I have friends in my society (Mountaineering) that do, and they really enjoy it!

There’s a page on Facebook called York St John University Freshers 2024 *OFFICIAL*” which is a really good place to find others on your course and any flatmates in your accommodation.

I can’t link the page as it’s a private page run by the university and students union, but it’s the one with the students union building as the cover photo!

I hope this helps and good luck with any exams you have over next few weeks or months!

Thank you! I'm in that group already, and a few other unofficial groups and have been unsuccessful so far - I think some people just have no idea the group exists. Hoping I find someone soon, it'll be very comforting! Hope you're enjoying mountaineering

There usually a lot of posts that get put in the group around results day in August. I'm sure that someone else on the course will pop something in the group, as it gets closer to September.

I would definitely recommend going to the freshers fair in September, its how i joined Mountaineering in my 2nd year. I had never climbed before but that was completely okay as the club is full of both beginners and those that have been climbing for years. Clubs and Society's are a great way to meet new people outside of your course. Joining Mountaineering has probably been one of my biggest highlights while being at uni, and have met some amazing friends through it. YSJ has over 50 different clubs and society's, so there's usually something that everyone will enjoy

I found people on my course! I have an alternate question on music production though:

For welcome week, I've looked at my academic timetable for the inductions, and the slots for certain days say I will be in inductions for 7 hours - is this a thing where time slots are given out to groups, or is it really 7 hours?

It seems a lot, so I want to make sure I'm prepared, especially since it conflicts with some student union sales I was going to check out (e.g. plant sale, vintage sale)!

Hi,

I have asked my friend (they are 3rd year music production), and they have said they only had 2 two-hour sessions in welcome week. I would imagine it would be similar for you, and the music production academic team, are in the process of sorting your cohort into seminar/workshop groups.

From looking at the music production welcome week timetable (I've linked it below), I would say this is the case, since the Monday session is two different seminar groups, either being the 9.00am-12:30pm or 13.00pm - 16.30pm. I would guess it would also be similar for the Tuesday and Thursday session; as these say small group workshops.

The lecturers will probably either email you or put a message on Moodle, which will let you know, what sessions you should attend. This will probably be within the next couple of weeks.

I'm not sure if you've seen this or not, but each course has a welcome message, which has details about what to expect and also contact details for your course lead. You can always give them a email before start of the semester, regarding queries around the timetable, for the semester or welcome week.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much, you've caused so much relief across the coursemates I know!

Would you be able to ask what headphones they'd recommend we buy?

The course leader did recommend a pair, but I'd prefer an opinion from someone currently in the course, if that makes sense? Sorry for bugging you so much, we're full of questions!

Hi!

They said the Beyerdynamic dt770 pro 32 ohm headphones! They mentioned that them and their courses mates have them and love them.

Don't apologise for asking questions! It's absolutely fine. I remember I had so many questions when I was starting 1st year. If you have anymore, please do let me know!
