University of Liverpool accommodation/ private accommodation

Hi, Im going into first year this September for Law with Business and Im looking for accommodation, has anyone been thinking about Limelight? Im worried that I wont be with many other first years since its a private accommodation, others I have been looking into are Grand Central by Unite or Calico. I don’t want to end up being isolated from my peers or make it harder for myself to socialise, so if anyone has been in this position or has any advice please let me know. Im wondering if I would be better off going into the university halls. I am also wondering if I were to be in a studio in the university halls, if I would feel isolated as well. Thank you xx

Hello! I'm a current first year law student. I'm in a studio in uni halls. In regard to private halls, there should be quite a few first years due to uni halls costing more than private. However, I believe some private halls require a guarantor so if that's an issue, uni halls are a better option.

Personally I found that I haven't been too isolated whilst in a uni halls studio. The halls often put on social events to allow residents to get to know eachother. The uni itself has a lot of societies so even if you don't get along too well with others in your accommodation, I've found that the societies are great for getting to know new people.

My personal take was that I'd prefer to be in a studio incase I got put in the same shared accommodation as people I didn't get along with. If you're in uni halls, you'll be sharing with other first years I believe. However, I think if you're sharing in private halls, you can get put with people in other years.

Hopefully you're able to decide what works best for you though : )

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I have been looking into grand central by Unite, do you know anything about it? Also if you don’t mind me asking, which uni hall block did you stay in? I hope you have a good summer x

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the unite accommodation. I heard that there were issues for the year before me but haven't heard many complaints this year.

I stayed in the Greenbank Halls. It's the only uni hall off campus so you need to take buses, but you get a heavily discounted year long bus pass so it's worth it. Greenbank also just has first years so you'll all be in the same boat, other uni halls tend to have a mix of years.

Hope that helps!

My DD is in Apollo Court, which is run by Student Roost (but you can apply for it via Liverpool's accommodation service). It's in a great location and much cheaper than Greenbank and a bit cheaper than the uni's own accommodation in the same area. It also offers studio apartments.

Unite has had some big issues with fights and poor staffing, but honestly I don't have much to say other than that. Greenbank is quite nice for people who like to party, but you have to take the bus in every single day, and you need to take the bus in to town if you want to get there. I know this has been quite annoying for some as everyone will hop on the bus the same time and sometimes can cause you to be late. Private accommodations are really nice though, I would just book to see some tours. I personally, recommend True Student, but they are a little bit more pricey, being around the £165 per week price for a flat in a cluster of 6 people, but all rooms are ensuites.

Another thing i get how you feel with the whole thing i'd say living somewhere where its not over-crowded or under-crowded would be the best, im a very unsociable person so i went with EUROPA and just locked myself in my room but everyone i lived with was hella sweet and hella nice so i made friends im leaving University though so if you'd like to talk it over then just hmu and ill give you my details and we can talk haha
