Sutton Trust Summer School

So, I have been offered a place at Durham University for the summer school in August 2024
Are my parents allowed to come with me, will the costs be covered? We are from around 6 hours away so I’m not sure I feel comfortable being that far away for a week.
If not, can I still take a parent with me?

I also just got accepted for the Durham summer school. 😭 I’m pretty sure parents aren’t allowed but I’m not sure.

yeah it’s like 6 hours from where I live. Im assuming parents are allowed to drop you off but yeah I don’t think they can stay. I’m very nervous about the living situation though. also I’m wondering how much of it is paid??

I’m pretty sure they pay for you to get there by train or even by plane it says Lol
And then you stay in dorm style accommodation on the university and get food included
So I think it’s all free or I hope so 😂
What course are you doing for the summer school?

My mums coming with me to get there but i’m going back myself so I’m not too worried about that tbf. I’m just low-key worried abt the living situation. but i’m excited icl. I’m doing psychology - very excited abt that. I’d never even considered Durham before but now i’m thinking of applying next year. I heard from my career’s counsellor said some unis give you a lower offer. idk if that’s true but i’m hoping 😭. Anything wbu??

My mum is shipping me off on my own😭 I’m from down south so it’s pretty far and yeah are you gonn stay in a hotel or something with your mum? Idk how it works tbh. I’m doing geography but I changed my mind about careers I think I want to go into business so idk if it’s worth going, I read somewhere they may give you a lower offer if u go to there summer camp so maybe applying to Durham is worth it. I don’t think I’d go just cuz it is so far but I wanted to go and see it anyway haha

Hi, I got accepted to the Glasgow one. For travel costs, you will have to book it yourself and then you submit a form so they reimburse you. And accommodation and food will be completely free (99% sure on this). Parents aren't allowed to stay but they can obviously drop you off and pick you up. Good luck to both of us :P
