Cardiff vs Newcastle

I have applied for computer science and i’m stuck between the two since the grades offered are the same. Thank you.

If I could also know the pros of Cardiff that would be very much appreciated. I would also like to know about diversity in Cardiff.

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offers! Cardiff is well known as a really friendly city, there is great access to a lot of other cities around the UK and you have Cardiff and Bristol airports nearby, we have one of the best student unions in the UK. Also, in the new Centre for Student Life, you can access international opportunities, career and work experience support, free language lessons throughout your studies and a career mentoring programme. It is also one of the cheapest student cities in the UK.

However, it can be said that Cardiff is less diverse in comparison to other universities but I think that it is large enough that everyone can find their crowd.

I hope that helps!

All the best,

Hi there! Are you talking about in terms of ethnic diversity or something else? I was also worried about diversity, being an ethnic minority myself, when I applied to university. As Jaz has said, there's a little less diversity than other cities such as London, but honestly my experience is that its been pretty good 🙂 I think it can feel a bit overwhelming when you first go into uni, but there are lots of international students and there are lots of cultural societies at the uni, which you can find here. They tend to be very active and often hold events!

I would say there's a an emphasis in celebrating cultural diversity in the student community, especially in the Student Union. In previous years we had Culture Cwtch, an event celebrating the different cultural societies we had in Cardiff and every year a show called Go Global happens, where people showcase different performances from their cultures. Having been to both, its been really nice and inclusive
