please reconsider the aggressiveness of the sign up to TSR pop-up

Problem Summary
please reconsider the aggressiveness of the sign up to TSR pop-up

Problem Details
Posting this especially as others have complained about it and after seeing how other websites do it.

The sign up pop-up is too aggressive and there needs to be a way to dismiss it. There needs to be a X symbol where you can dismiss the popup and still continue to free browse TSR rather than going down the Instagram, TikTok and X route you’re forced to create an account and there’s no X button.

If I was forced to sign up then I would screw it and say welp I’m not signing up to this website, I’ll simply not look at the content or find a workaround to view the content.

Go on Mumset to see what I’m talking about and to see how much less aggressive the behaviour is

Additional Information
Even if you had the pop-up re-appear each time you refresh the page or change the thread in a page then that’s fine, this is how it works on Mumset I think.

All of the times where I’ve signed up for a website it was because I genuinely wanted to sign up or because I wanted to make a comment or react to a comment, not because I was aggressively pushed into creating an account (this excludes making accounts for news content).

Hi. Thanks for this suggestion. I know other users have said this too and I'll pass it along to the product team to think about.

I just wanted to let you know, I did ask the product team to think about this but at the moment they have no plans to change it. They are always keeping an eye on the balance between the number of new user sign ups we get and the number of guest viewers so this continually being looked at.

That’s a shame then. I know that if I was met with such pop-up and no option to close it then I wouldn’t have bothered to sign up, let alone stay long term (which I’d argue is more important than simply getting X amount of users sign up), I would have gone elsewhere.

Yup, same. It's for this reason I've never made an account for LinkedIn or Instagram. The signup popups were a dealbreaker for me.

If it had been present on TSR initially then they would not have gotten 25k posts out of me.

Yes, the only time I’ll make an account based on a sign up pop-up is for browsing news content (FT, The i, Le Monde etc).
