I don’t understand the gcse religious studies questions

I know this might sound really stupid but I don’t know how to understand the questions on gcse religious studies paper. I understand the topics and I’m good at memorising but when it comes to applying my knowledge on exam questions I Litt cannot understand what the questions mean, it’s soo confusing and does not make sense and it’s not that I find it hard because I don’t know how to answer the A-D type questions because I learnt how to answer them and fully but the questions still don’t make sense. I honestly cannot explain the situation im in right now, it’s honestly soo confusing, please someone help me :frown:(

I am doing Christianity 1B, Islam 2C and Marks gospel 4A

I can only help you with marks gospel, as i do catholic christianity, judaism and mg. I'm in yr11 but for rs ive gotten 8/9s this year compared to last year where i got only 7s so maybe i can be of some help.

with the 2 marker, try to use direct quotes from the passage if it asks you what was said because if you look at the marks scheme, they just take quotations from the passage.
example being "give two of the greatest commandments that Jesus said were the greatest"

For the 4 marker, if they ask you for a contrasting belief, contrasting just means different so just state a for and against.
Example being if they ask "state two contrasting beliefs about the feeding of the 5000", it can literally just be, some believe it did happen + explain why, and some believe it didn't happen + it was just symbolic of the messianic secret

For the 5 marker, try to make your answer relevant to the question, also don't forget your quote!
Example "explain two ways in which the story of blind bartimaeus is significant to christians today"
yes you can say it shows faith but to make it relevant to today, state a case where you may need to show faith such as when dealing with terminal illness' such as cancer

for the 12 marker, make sure you know what it wants you to answer, and don't be afraid to read to 3x to make sure you don't misunderstand it.
then make your rough plan so that you know what you are going to write, it doesn't need to be detailed as rs is a v tight exam in terms of timing, but just so that you can get into the flow of writing faster.
example "the miracles recorded in mg acc happened"
so here you can use any miracle because the question is quite general
make sure to at least aim to have a quote per paragraph, 2 agrees and 2 disagrees along w a conclusion
so ur agree could be Jesus has authority from God and people followed jesus ex. bartimaeus so clearly they happened.
yoou could disagree and say some could be a healing of the sick rather than from the dead so w jairus' daughter and say that they were just meant to display his power as mg was written to give hope to persecuted christians
When it comes to 12 marker's, try to think back to everything you've got in a section so in 1,2,3 and 4,5,6

Don't be afraid to really read the question and take a second to understand it before you start writing

I got most of these tips from my rs teacher, I hope this is helpful and maybe you can use it for your other exams asw. good luck!
