What supercurriculurs do I NEED to do to get into LSE for maths, stats and business?

I'm at the point in Yr12 where I need to start thinking about applying to universities, and things I need to do to guarantee a place.

What are some super curriculars that I should focus my energy on to ensure I get in, I'm a big believer of the 80/20 principle, so I don't want to do some bs, but instead focus on what matters.

What I'm currently doing:

- As and A*s at GCSE.
- On track for 5 As in (Maths, Physics, Sociology, Further maths and Economics).
- Going to be doing TMUA and expecting a good score.
- On track for predicted 4A*s (dropping sociology)
- Doing multiple essay competitions, finalist for a couple.
- Competed in the Great British National Economics olympiad.
- Came first in a trading simulation against 500 or so other people.
- Reading books etc.
- Clinics, articles, whatnot.

My main worry is that initially I thought I was going to do economics, but now I switched my mind to this course, and I'm not sure how to incorporate maths, stats and business into my supercurriculurs?

Is it okay that its more economic centric? What should I be doing?

Thank you for any help btw.

Hi! I’m no economist, but do maths a level and know of a few extracurriculars.

. Try to do the senior maths challenge, STEP maths papers, team maths challenges
. MEI intro to data science course, includes analysing data of economies and is designed to be taken alongside a level maths.
. Read the Financial Times magazine.

Why do you want to go to that university to do that course? Does the job you want to do only accept graduates from that particular course / uni?

It's the course I find most interesting, I don't think I can survive doing pure economics for four years haha

LSE maths student here, you don't necessarily NEED anything other than passion for your chosen degree programme and to show that in your personal statement, I think everything you're preparing will set you up well for applying!

Do you want an honest answer? 😅 Haha jokes aside, university is what you make of it and LSE is no different. Personally my experience has not been that great but I have nobody to blame for that except myself. I will say though, LSE is a great environment for learning, seeing your grades and drive I notice that you're very academically rigorous and take pride in your studies so I think you'll enjoy yourself here.

haha academically rigorous.. noo, i'm just tryna get past with good grades and a good uni, then hopefully start living a bit more, idk if I'm dead set on LSE, but I want to go to a london uni for sure.

Well I wish you the best with applications, I wouldn't worry about your application, from what you've listed above you seem like a pretty competitive candidate. Just by scoring well on the TMUA you'll stand out, many people don't bother doing it or submitting their results (like me lol). And if you do end up going LSE, let me know, theres some modules you should stay very far away from hahah!

oh and for extra curricular, have you done the UKMT? if you scored well on that then its always worth mentioning, pretty cliche but it does help! if not then try and do it in year 13 and get your referee to mention it in ur reference or something
