Anyone goes to uni of Surrey to study biomed? I’d like to know about the accommodation and the ambiance there. I am not sure if to firm it yet so if I could’ve an overall idea about the uni and campus life and everything that’d be great:smile:
Hi @Noshin83 ,

Hope you’re doing well! I’m currently studying biomed at Surrey and am loving it so far.

I find the course really interesting and the fact that it’s accredited by The IBMS is something I find valuable as well. Labs are fun and very helpful at integrating the theory into the practice, as well as honing in your skills/techniques. So, in the end you’ll feel way more confident about your skills than when your first started! Lecturers are good at teaching and if you’re ever stuck on anything, I find they are more than happy to help you. There are also plenty of ways to get support on other things too besides academics.

The cohort is fairly big, and you’ll share a few modules with other bioscience related students as well. So, plenty of opportunity to make friends! Tutorials are smaller in size compared to lectures. I find Surrey has a nice and diverse community and the social scene is what you make of it. Additionally, we’ve ranked top 5 for Student Experience by The Times. Popular places to catch-up and socialise with others include the common rooms, ‘The Dots’, dotted around campus as well as our restaurants and café’s that have a variety of cuisines from around the world. The large spaces of greenery on campus is beautifully complimented by the lake, which overlooks Guildford and is full of wildlife. In the Summer months, it turns into a festive venue that hosts movie nights and music concerts. It’s also a great place to have a picnic and BBQ!

The nightlife is vibrant; we have two nightclubs on campus, which are reasonably priced and popular amongst students. Town is only a 10-15-minute walk from Stag Hill Campus, for shopping etc. If you’re feeling more adventurous, transport links to London and other neighbouring towns are quickly and easily accessible. London is roughly 30-45 mins away by train.

Surrey has a variety of student accommodation available depending on your budget and personal preference. They range from sharing a room with others to having your own ensuite or own studio. Bills and Wifi are included in the price and more information can be found here.

If you have any further queries, then the accommodation team are more than happy to answer your questions. You can find their contact details here.

Additionally, there is also the 24/7 Campus Safety Team to ensure the safety of students throughout university.

In terms of career prospects, Surrey has an award-winning Careers and Employability Service. It’s completely free and they do CV checks, mock interviews, placement advice including much more. So, if you’re ever stuck and need more support, they are here to help.

Overall, choosing the university that best suits you and your goals is probably the wisest choice. So, wishing you the best of luck.

Kind Regards,
Britina
