Sunderland Mpharm Or Nottingham MPharm

I have conditional offers from Nottingham pharmacy and sunderland pharmacy with nottingham having higher grade requirements, however I am stuck between the two. For me personally, the reason I lean towards Sunderland is because I really want to build myself up as I'm quite the introvert, and Nottingham has too many people i already know. Apart from that, its cheaper at sunderland, but nottingham is a big city so I feel like there would be more opportunities. I've visited Sunderland uni before but not nottingham. I can't really find anywhere online about their experiences about Sunderland Uni/Mpharm at sunderland. Can anyone from Sunderland Mpharm/sunderland uni help me on what life is like there? And can anyone from Notts describe their life there too?

Sunderland uni student here!
Student life is great, Sunderland is small but has an exciting feel to it so it's easy to not feel too overwhelmed when you leave home. I love the links to Newcastle and Durham too.
As a city it's really cheap to live and socialise, I also find the costs of rent and bills were much lower than other areas I looked. There's a great community feel to Sunderland and there's always something going on.
I study Cosmetic Science myself but we work closely with the MPharm students and many of my friends are on the course, they love it!

If you get the grades, definitely go to Nottingham. It has one of the very top Pharmacy schools in the UK (only Bath and KCL are arguably better). Also the main campus is one of the best in the UK, if not the World.

Hello!

Congratulations on your offers!

You will be going to university for your education, first and foremost, and thus University Park Campus at UoN is a fantastic location to study since there are a lot of quiet areas and group study areas that you may use to your advantage during the academic year. It is also a really green space.

In terms of student life, Nottingham is a fairly nice city with almost everything you’ll ever need. It has also a decent public transport network that covers the majority of the city and the surrounding urban areas really well, plus some buses also go out to Derby, Loughborough and Mansfield if you need them to. Besides, the city is walkable which is convenient for students living close to campus. In relation to its downsides, there seems to be a lot of development going on in the city, so I have never really seen it completed. The roads going into the city centre can be pretty confusing, and despite the tram being great, it does not actually cover much of the city or the surrounding areas (albeit it covers University Park).

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask us 🙂

Good luck,
Abian.

Have you gotten an interview by any chance
University of Sunderland student here! Whilst, I don't study pharmacy myself I know several people who do, and they all love the course.

I've lived in Sunderland all my life, it is a lovely seaside town, with friendly people and definitely a lot less overwhelming than bigger cities, in my opinion.

Sunderland as a whole has a much cheaper cost of living compared to other cities especially in terms of accommodation rent, etc. which is such a benefit as a student!

It should also be noted Our Pharmacy and Pharmacology courses are 1st in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2025) which is an amazing achievement.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Many Thanks,

Sunderland is one of the highest by percentage in terms of places where people voted to leave the EU.
