If you want less memorisation than psychology is not it, it’s so much more content and my friend prefers religious studies to psychology. Psychology also gets quite boring and repetitive after a while and there isn’t any room for opinions in essays just reciting facts
sociology is much better than psychology because 1. wayyy less content 2. psych has very exact answers, unlike socio which literally if u saw sm yesterday in the news, you could bring it in ur essay if it links, giving u smmm freedom with the subject

what? i do edexcel psych and cambridge socio and socio is nothing compared to psych, my friends finished the entire chapter within a few days whereas psych we've been doing it for months and its still so heavy overall, and im saying this as someone who got the highest mark in the UAE for edexcel psych so i know how content heavy it actually is compared to socio

UAE I’m talking about aqa in england
I do psychology and sociology, both AQA.

I find psychology assessments easier because there's more short answer questions and they can ask similar questions over the years so if you do enough exam questions you could memorise some answers, especially with research methods. Whereas with sociology there are longer essay questions and there's a broad range of topics they can ask about meaning you need to practise essay skills as well as being confident in the content.

However I find sociology easier to revise than psychology. For psychology there's a lot of content to remember in the form of case studies and also evaluation of these case studies which can go into a lot of depth, and it can be easy to get psychologists names/statistics/etc muddled up. With sociology, there's a lot more sociologists names to remember + what they did/found, however these can be easy to remember if you do active recall (I recommend anki).

In terms of content, both subjects are content heavy. With psychology the subtopics are smaller, however with sociology there are subtopics within subtopics (eg I do Family which is a subtopic, and in this we have childcare, demography, couples etc.). Of course this will differ with exam boards.

I enjoy both subjects but I prefer psychology, just due to personal preference.

So if you could recommend me one which would it be if had to pick 1 and could drop like which is more content heavy hear people say diff answers just want an honest real answer overall and are you in year 13 to let me know and ik in psych got studies and concepts to learn with evaluation points and names and soc got to learn concepts and names and lmk which has more memorisation as want the one with least memorisation so easier and content to lesser

I'm in year 12 right now. The content and difficulty of each subject isn't a black/white difference as each person finds different things difficult. This is why I tried to compare each aspect of the subjects in my original reply.

Personally I find psychology easier because I find there's more of a 'structure' to the content. Like there's content, a study linking to the content and evaluation relating to the content/study. Whereas with sociology the content isn't as structured because the content/studies 'merge' together, in a sense? And there isn't a set amount of evaluation for each content/study, but this could be due different teaching styles. Sorry if this doesn't make sense I'm not too great at explaining how my brain works :s-smilie:

If you have any more questions I'll try my best to answer. At the end of the day it's your choice what you do because you know your strengths/weaknesses.

yeah edexcel psych UK qualification (still many international british schools do it) , otherwise if ur doing aqa i dunno

My other subject is biology (aqa). It's a notoriously difficult subject and I recommend choosing it only if you need it for uni or if you have a real passion for the subject (I'd assume if you had such a passion for bio then you'd need it for uni)

I know someone who does law (OCR I believe), they find it quite difficult. There seems to be a lot of case studies and dates to remember as well as specific definitions. Also I heard them mention they have to 'interpret' how to answer the question and if they interpret wrong and write about the wrong thing then they get no marks. Of course this will differ for different exam boards as well as the ability of the students. There's plenty of people in my psychology and sociology class doing law, so they are a good pairing of subjects.

Don't know anyone doing cs or economics or business, sorry
