By half a GCSE, do you mean already graded coursework? Unfortunately I’m pretty sure you cannot, because you need the whole gcse course per subject ☹️ I’m sure you’ll do great either way, so I wouldn’t worry! Good luck!

Oh sorry, my bad 😭😭 I wouldn’t know in that context then, because I haven’t taken a short course so idk how they work sorry! You should ask a teacher or smt, that would probably get you a better answer aha

How would i ask them?

Send an email? Do they not have an email you can message for queries
hi, i go to pates and they’ve already sent out offers so if you get if you it should state whether they accept it or not, although i don’t think they will

They wouldn’t accept all 8s?
Ehat grades did u get?
pates gives priority to internal ppl so because i’m already at pates i only need 57 points.

But for externals they usually only accept ppl with 71 or 72 points bc they’re are so oversubscribed ( over 800 ppl applied for like 80 external places) so they filter it put to pick the best candidates first so you’ll need mostly nines
did u get an offer? they sent them out like a month ago i think

Might be late to the post but:

Short course RS does not count at all towards your top 8 at Pates (I'm an external at Pate's and I took short course RS)

As an external you should be looking for a top 8 between 69 - 72 to have a near guarantee of an offer (the higher the better)

Is Pate's actually better than STRS?

yes, academically pates is around 6th best grammar school in uk, STRS is around 39th
Does it really matter ? No, not really, a levels are mostly independent work, so it shouldn’t matter too much. I can tell you a fact that STRS and Pates are both better than DRHS tho, so I wouldn’t worry too much 😂

Depends what you are looking for, but in my experience for sixth form, yes. Its more academically challenging at Pates and the resources and support are better than at STRS imo. The teacher quality is about the same. If you are more into sports and want to be part of a competitive rugby or cricket team, tommies is probably better. At the end of the day, it just comes down to personal preference. Attend the open days for both sixth forms and make an informed decision based on that. But if you are asking about academics alone, then yes, Pates is better.
