Ordinary vs Honours degree?

I have offers to study undergrad business with a language at Swansea, Greenwich and Westminster. Swansea is the one I want to go with out of these, however, Swansea says it’s an Ordinary degree, whereas Greenwich and Westminster are honours degrees. What exactly does this mean? Swansea is a much stronger uni than the others, but does the fact it’s an ordinary degree weaken it? Does it affect the degrees worth/employability later on?

Where are you seeing that programme listed as an ordinary degree?

It says it in my UCAS when I go to firm it. Not sure if the year abroad makes a difference?

Hi @Belle H, hope you're doing well. Congrats on your offer with Swansea and great to hear you're looking to accept firm.

Your Swansea offer will be for a degree with Honours too, it might just be the title is worded a bit differently in UCAS or the offer letter. All of our Business degrees include 360 credits to achieve bachelors with hons (i.e. BSc (Hons) Business with Modern Languages) - sometimes, if you don't achieve all of the required credits at the end of your course, you can be awarded an 'Ordinary' degree instead.

So, rest assured that you Swansea offer will definitely be for a bachelor's degree with honours. You're welcome to send me a direct message if you'd like me to check anything else regarding your application and offer.

Best of luck with everything and we look forward to welcoming you soon! Gethin (Future Students Team).
