Transferring to Glasgow University

Hi, Im currently in my first year in Accounting at Caledonian University but I really want to reapply or transfer to Glasgow University because of various reasons. When I applied through UCAS last year, I was given a conditional offer to both universities, however the conditions to Caledonian were lower and I met them and not Glasgow's entrance requirements. I’m willing to retake a higher to get a better grade if they require the same requirements for highers. But i’m just wondering if completing first year and possibly second year too would give me a better chance?

This is a real long shot - but is there any chance I could request a transfer to Glasgow? For various reasons I just feel like I'd be better at University of Glasgow, is there any point even phoning to ask or is it just completely pointless?

ask or you'll never know, you won't lose anything by asking and if you don't then you might regret it!

Hello!

You can read our full policy on transfer requests on our website here: www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/entryrequirements/policy/#universitytransfer

As a general rule, the University does not accept applications from UK students to transfer from another institution unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Our extenuating circumstances policy can be found here: www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/entryrequirements/policy/#extenuatingcircumstances

All transfer requests must be made through UCAS and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applications from students currently studying at another Higher Education Institution must meet the current SQA Higher or A level entry requirements to be considered for an offer.

I hope this is helpful!

I was able to get a conditional but didn't meet it because of my higher maths grade so if I was to get a conditional would it be on higher maths or just my university transcript?

Did you read the previous post? It contains your answer. Your only chance is if you are getting such epic scores now, Glasgow are prepared to break their own rules. Universities are very wary of the process you are trying to execute, ie a back door entry into more academic courses.

I did read the previous post but I'm not asking about transfers. I'm asking about applying into first year through UCAS.

Same thing applies though - why wouldn't it. Glasgow is protecting the academic strength of its cohort. You would have to have excellent grades from your current course for Glasgow to take the risk that you had overcome the level you were at when you were at school. And again, as a matter of policy, it gives the impression there is an alternate route into Glasgow, which isn't good for Glasgow or other universities.

It doesn’t give any impression as admissions emailed me to apply for next year entry if I missed by a grade this time. There are many ways to get into Glasgow with supporting programs, not just excellent grades, which I know from my previous offer made. Thank you.

It's definitely worth exploring your options and reaching out to the University of Glasgow for guidance. Here's what you can consider:
1. **Contact the University of Glasgow Admissions Team**: Call or email their admissions office and inquire about their policy on transferring students. Universities often consider transfer requests on a case-by-case basis, especially if you've demonstrated strong academic performance in your first year and meet any specific course prerequisites.
2. **Review Transfer Requirements**: Some universities allow transfers based on completed coursework and grades, rather than solely on high school qualifications. Ask Glasgow what they would need from you to consider your application, such as higher grades, strong performance in your current program, or other supporting evidence.
3. **Consider Retaking Highers**: If Glasgow specifies that you still need to meet their original entrance requirements, retaking a higher could improve your chances. Be sure to clarify this with them so you can plan accordingly.
4. **Timing Your Transfer**: Universities typically accept transfer applications for second-year entry rather than mid-year. If transferring directly into second year is not possible, completing two years at Caledonian and applying for direct entry to the third year might also be an option, depending on course compatibility.
5. **Explain Your Motivation**: When reaching out, provide a clear and positive explanation for why you believe Glasgow is a better fit for you, both academically and personally. Avoid being critical of your current university and focus on how Glasgow aligns with your goals.
Phoning to ask is not pointless—showing initiative and enthusiasm can only help. The worst they can say is no, but they may provide alternative routes or suggestions to help you achieve your goal. Good luck!

I swear some of y’all on this website are so rude for no reason 💀 there’s no need to be so passive aggressive when they’re just asking- no one is forcing you to answer them
