Tips for getting a job with Citadel!

The standard route is pretty cliche by now, strong math, problem solving, etc. One rarely mentioned method is, just come up with a new idea that is heavily backed with math and explain why only you came up with it, that would put you a foot ahead of your peers.

How would you rate my chances as a UK based 41 y/o. Military then Oil and Gas exploration. Eventually went to uni and due to graduate this summer with a BA in Politics, Philosophy & Economics (should be on track for a First, but maybe a 2:1)?
I know I should've started applying for internships last summer but I wasn't set on this path until January and have tried two off cycle internship applications and a few analyst applications with no luck. Plus a few (maybe 10) non IB but finance related applications. I have 5 applications ongoing, two are IB internships.
I would be really grateful for any advice, or pointers and apologies for rambling on but wanted to give some background.

Do you have any trading experience?

Zero but trying to get an internship on the off cycle. Will keep trying and push for the August recruitment cycle. TBH, i'm applying for any entry level finance role to get a foot in the door.
