A-Level Exams - Consideration

Hi I just wanted to ask if like if something happened personally would the exam boards be considerate of an incident and give like extra marks or extra time or something like that to help out?

It depends on what you mean by 'happened personally'. If you are granted special consideration you will be rewarded with extra marks (usually a certain percentage of the raw marks). You will not get extra time unless you have been assessed for it internally. Special consideration is given after your exams have been completed and won't necessarily apply to every single paper you sit.

Check with your exam board, but generally yes, bereavement is something that will give you special consideration. I was given special consideration for my French exams last year for this reason.

Thank you. I have no clue. You’ll have to check with your exam board and see what the guidelines for special consideration state.

If someone experienced bereavement of a grandparent, how likely are they to be successful in their application for special consideration?

It depends on how close to the exam the grandparent passed away. For me it was three days before my French speaking exam so the school postponed it , but it largely depends on the individual situation.

Hi,

I hope you're okay. Try speaking to your school if you are able to, your head of year has probably dealt with similar situations of children gaining special consideration x

For me it was a couple days before the start of exam in May, but I was wondering if this special consideration covered ALL of the exams because I have history exams in June (my last exams). Is there a limit to special consideration?
Also, I have a bit of a dilemma ☹️ I got an Oxford offer of AAA but due to how bad I’ve been doing in my current exams I think I’m on a B. If I apply for special consideration but I still get a B in the end, do you think Oxford will still consider the bereavement or no?
