Picking insurance choices

I need to do my firm/insurance choices soon, and I was wondering if Glasgow or Southampton would be a better option?

I'm doing International Relations as my course, but I also was interested in terms of living standards/quality of life?

Thanks!!

Would you be happy with either? What would you say are the pros and cons of each?
Do either of them guarantee accommodation for insurance students?

Look at the course at each Uni carefully
What optional units are available in each year of each course - think about what you would choose if you went there.
This is what you are going to be doing every day for the next few years - it matters that pick the course that is right for you.

Hey @Ickey 😀 As above - think about what's important to you, and figure out what your own personal priorities are so you can work out which is the best fit for you. Have you visited either campus? If so, which one did you feel was more *you*?

Have you been able to chat with any current students on the courses at Glasgow or Southampton yet? I'm sure that UofG have Unibuddies on their webpages - that would let you speak directly with one of their current students. You can maybe get a better gauge for what student life is really like that way. The @Uni of Southampton Students rep page here might also be able to tell you a bit more on TSR if you drop them a message! 🙏

Hi @Ickey

Southampton has good standard of living. In terms of cost of living, it is affordable. In addition, the city has a vibrant nightlife with a variety of bars and nightclubs because Southampton is very much a student city as there are two universities in Southampton. Southampton is very easy to get around and is a walkable city. There are buses as well which are frequent and easy to use. A free bus ticket is included as part of the halls accomodation, therefore, making it very easy to travel around.
Southampton has a variety of attractions during the day such as the SeaCity museum and the art gallery, as well as more historical features such as the old town walls. There is also a large shopping centre with a variety of shops.
Moreover, there is alot of greenery as there are multiple parks in Southampton, the largest being the Southampton Common, just by the Campus.
The student union has over 200 societies which cater to a variety of interests from academic to sporty to creative and therefore, is a place to meet likeminded individuals. The student union also puts on a variety of events throughout the year.

As for the course, I study some of my modules within the Department of Politics and International Relations. The department offers alot of flexibility in that there are a variety of modules on offer. The content is kept up to date with the latest research. In second and third year the majority of modules are optional giving you the chance to cater your degree to your interests. In addition, you can study some politics modules as part of your degree as well as pick to study interdisciplinary modules as well as modules from other subjects. There is also the chance to go on a year abroad or placement year.

Hi man, I’m studying International Relations at Southampton University next year too. I’ve been told the Southampton course is one of the best in the country, especially with the customisability of the modules and chance to do a year abroad. Good luck and hope to see you there 🤙🏻
