Should be ok but do check for the GCSE threshold for the schools you are interested in. Some unis like Cardiff and Leicster = look at GCSE and score candidates on em so keep this in mind.

Depends on the medical school. Some medical schools (e.g. Imperial, UCL) don't even score GCSEs and just have minimum requirements you need to meet. Others formally score them as part of shortlisting and for some of those they are a major component of the shortlisting score (e.g. Oxford, Cardiff). For others it may be a smaller component or they may only score a certain number.

I would suggest aiming for those that don't score GCSEs or the ones which don't put as much weight on them, in order to maximise your odds of getting an interview.

I am concerned about it as well. Do you think it would be a problem across all universities?

What kind of A Level predictions have you got/will you have? Of course they’ve got to be good enough and it’s worth knowing that most who are successful have in excess of that and probably what you have at GCSE. But there are always people within a range.

Will you be eligible for contextual consideration?

No, not eligible for contextual consideration.
The A level predictions are yet to come.
I have heard universities like Bristol doesn't look into GCSE's at all.Is that correct?

it depends where you want to apply and it conditional on you achieving a high ucat I had a friend who had achieved top decile in their ucat but this still was not enough for aston and birmingham I think you should retake the gcse if i'm being honest as it really has put me at a disadvantage

Is this really bad? doing my bio tomorrow,
Been getting 9s in all my sciences, realistically getting 9 in bio, 8 in chem physics (maybe 9)
8 in maths probably( maybe 9)
and probably 6 in English LIt and language.

I think they meant that they hope that this is a joke because the grades aren't low enough to be a major concern. If it was all 6s and below then someone may struggle applying to medicine, but these are typical grades of a medicine applicant.

Thank you,

That made me so relieved, thought there is no way of getting into med school with my grades 😔

Do you know if UoB formally score gcses (for dentistry)? They have minimum requirements in certain subjects but I’m not sure if it’s a small component of the application or not

I would recommend making a thread in the dentistry forum to ask
