does anyone know what substance is used to control co2 level when examining effect of co2 on rate of photosynthesis. in starch tests and in the pondweed (e.g elodea) test.
How is everyone feeling for tomorrow? How are we spending this evening revising?

Do you mean the chemical used to absorb it so it's not a factor? If so I'm pretty sure it's sodium hydroxide, and the BBC website agrees

Do you mean questions where we aren't explicitly taught the subject (it might be based on a new study, for example) but are expected to apply our own knowledge? If so, I don't think there's much more to do than seeing how it could link to what you know (e.g. in 2023 I believe there was a question about the permeability of a cell membrane or something like that) and switching on scientific thinking caps.
And good luck! Hoping everyone gets what they want (including me lol)

I remember it being sodium hydrogencarbonate, but confirm with the textbook or with BBC bitesize

I agree if the poster is asking about testing for CO2 with sodium hydrogencarbonate, but I think sodium hydroxide is used to control the CO2 levels (by removing it). Not sure which is asked about though.

does anyone know why a central control system (ie a brain) is better than having it spread over the body? Also, does anyone know what kinds of questions could come up on contraception? Thanks.

yeah I would say sodium hydrogen carbonate too but I was taught soda lime in school, however mark schemes don't seem to like that so I would go for sodium hydrogen carbonate

No clue for the first question, but for contraception it's usually about the positive and negatives of hormonal vs non hormonal, or the specific hormones used and why. I also know questions asking you to critique natural conception have come up before. Also worth remembering condoms are the only which protect against STI/STDs.
