Lost a lot of friends by not supporting Hamas

I used to have a lot of friends at uni. But they all support Hamas and are anti-semetic and I've sat on the fence by supporting non-violence.

Anyone else in the same position?

Can’t relate but I think that I’ve been called Zionist/misinformed/brainwashed for condemning Hamas and not boycotting lol and for stating that Starbucks doesn’t support Israel.

And misinformed for calling out Israel’s actions.

You can condemn Hamas and antisemitism without supporting Israel…
Do you really want to be friends with anyone who is a supporter of a brutal theocratic terrorist group?
Why on earth would you want to be friends with a bunch of jew hating racists at uni?

Steer well clear of all those who support savage terrorist theocrats and the perpetrators of sex crimes.
Don't give them any opportunities to target you for harassment or physical attack.
Nor any other illegal conduct when they have got bored with events in the middle east and are fed up of attending protests/street hate marches/hunger strikes on campus.

I’d say no given what Hamas has done but yeah OP, bad friends in my opinion.
Fortunately when you start work, if you have a sensible employer and positive work culture, these types of squabbles and shunning just don't happen.

You will work respectfully with people from very diverse backgrounds, it will be inclusive and scant time is spent discussing topics like politics and religion.

Stay neutral, ignore nire it or take a position, whatever you like to do.

It's good that you are finding out what genuine friendship is by seeing when it is not tolerant of other views.

clearly nothing is there to back you up if you are "neutral"
a whole genocide is happening infront of our eyes and with full audacity you want to stay neutral to not get involved in politics? its humanity..
If any person as a whole genuinely thinks they can stay neutral with whatever is happening now, you have lost my entire respect and i hope you get educated cuz its sick to know its okay to be neutral.
Yes, it's okay to elide international issues (perhaps to focus on one's personal interests or domestic policy and news), being neutral or taking a firm position either side.

Fortunately in the work place or with strong friendships these kinds of discussions either don't take place or take place respectfully and tactfully, without strong judgements.

My friends and I have chats on this topic, plus sectarianism in Scotland, UK immigration policy, party politics, proposed changes to the benefit system, gender rights and other sensitive topics.

None of us loses our s*it or demands that we change our stance or have to express a position.
The majority of Non-Muslim South Asians support Israel. Try finding some of them.

In fact most of the student community support Israel anyway - it's only a small percentage of left wing students who support Palestine. Opinion polling on this topic repeatedly shows that the majority of youth are either supportive of Israel or on the fence about the conlflict, never supportive of the Hamas side.

Where are your sources?
When I searched it up pretty much everything said that younger people are more supportive of Palestine.
Pretty surprised people are taking this thread seriously.

how many people are stuck in their shells in this thread? Seriously though, you put a blind eye to the ICJ, the court cases against Netanyahu, the killing of 30,000+ innocents? If you kill hamas, kill hamas, why target children and women? Did you see Piers Morgan's interview with an israeli minister on how the minister knew the number of people of "hamas only" israel killed (14000+ he says) but he doesn't keep count of the INNOCENT STARVING PALESTINIANS killed and murdered? Do you know anything of the concentration camps for Palestinians that the Zionists put palestinians in, as REPORTED BY A TRUSTED SOURCE, THE CNN?:

Follow motaz azaiza on instagram and see some of the posts he pictures, Graphic warning, of brutally murdered palestinian children. you will see decimated bodies of CHILDREN.

Before you say ANTISEMITISM or "OCTOBER THE 7TH OCTOBER THE 7TH" go read the history of the independent Palestinian State and of the British Mandate Palestine...
I do not hate jews nor am against them, it is the Zionists and their brainwashed supporters that are rotten to their core.
How does the palestinian cause not bring tears to one eyes, i do not know. there are countless jews against netanyahu and the zionists....
go back and read the history before condemning Hamas, a rebellious group that stood up for the Palestinians when no brave country and people like yourself of course, were whimpering at the back, scared of the zionists that rule the world.

It's a complicated and emotive topic.

It's fine to have courage of your convictions to stay neutral (and/or remain detached).

How are you coping with the loss of friendships by not adopting the opinions of your peers?

Why do we have to take sides?

Can't we just say we don't support the murder and rape, torture and kidnapping of people....?

And at the same time we don't want women and children to be incinerated by bombs.

Why is this please?

Why is this please?

The implication of a uni full of Hamas sympathisers and the somewhat typical tact of an anon user posting a controversial thread with no intent to return to it.

I could be wrong of course, just intuition.
