I'm on a 4 year course at UoG and have now completed 3 years, I know people studying on a variety of courses and it all really depends on the course. In my first year I was at uni 3 days a week and in my second year I was in 4 days a week (none this year though as it was a placement year). I've known people to have uni 2 days a week and others 5 days a week - if it's less days a week they'll just be busier days, if youre in all 5 days it'll likely just be 1 or 2 lectures/seminars in a day. I have found my lectures to be quite good and anything I could've missed I can catch up later on due to the lecture recordings and the powerpoints being uploaded on moodle. The only downside of the lectures is when people are just chatting away which gets frustrating for the lecturers and sometimes you can't hear over people talking - when this happens they have to stop the lecture and ask people to leave. I've had very few lectures cancelled too but its always worth checking your email prior to going just incase your lecturer is off sick but other than that they're worthwhile. I cant speak for the SLT course as I know no one that does it but I do know people studying similar degrees which usually take place at the avery hill campus and they enjoy theirs.

I just finished my first year and everything’s going well so far The lectures are good overall. We did have one lecturer leave us halfway through the year, so for one of our modules we had visiting lecturers teach us over Zoom. But the good news is that they’ve hired two new SLT lecturers who are starting this September.

In terms of the timetable:

Term 1 was three days a week on campus

Term 2 was one day a week on placement and three days at uni

Term 3 was mostly just one lecture day a week on campus

It’s a nice balance, and placement is a really good experience early on. Let me know if you’ve got any other questions!

ohh that's good thank youu, I have a question on placement. Do they give you a list of hospitals where you can do placements at and if so do you know which ones. I hardly remember what they said in the interview 😅

They don’t give you a set list of hospitals or locations beforehand, but placements can be in a range of settings hospitals, clinics, schools, or nurseries. Mine was with a private SLT in an autism-specialised nursery. Some people in my cohort were placed in hospitals like King’s College Hospital and Queen Mary’s.

The uni makes sure your placement is within a maximum of 1 hour 30 minutes commute from where you’re staying during term time, so they do consider travel time and try to keep it reasonable.

We don’t get to choose where we do our placement it just gets randomly allocated by the uni based on availability and location.
