Portfolio for mature student applying for Fine Art

I’ve started my application to study as a mature student, I’m reading the application process and it has stated that a portfolio is requested. I’m happy to submit a portfolio however it states it should include sculpture and photography. I’ve only ever practiced painting and drawing. Would these need to be included or just a suggestion?

Hey, @Foxpondlane!

First off, it's great to hear you've started your university applications! As a student of Fine Art myself, I know the application process can be a bit daunting at first, especially since it's sometimes difficult to understand what exactly different universities want you to include in a portfolio.

Most Fine Art students don't come to university fully proficient in every artistic medium - at least, I certainly didn't! - so you're definitely not alone in not having some examples of certain mediums.Nonetheless, I would recommend contacting the university admissions team or course leader to double check if you definitely need to include sculpture and photography.

However, from my experience, most Fine Art courses are fairly flexible in regards to what you choose to include, and are more interested in seeing how your thought process and artistic curiosity comes to life in the works you've chosen. 🙂

Best of luck!
