Was the 8 marker for coastal landforms "to what extent does geology influence landforms" or just "how does geology influence landorms" because I only spoke about geomorphic processes and rates of erosion for different rock. I'm really worried now, since I know I messed up the first 6 marker and I don't know what I'll do if I don't get a 9

I have no idea as I didn’t sit this exam or GCSE Geography but hopefully someone who did knows the answer.

But this chat compared to the AQA one is looking dry.

i don't remember the exact wording of the question but it asked something about how the geology affects the geomorphic processes that create landforms. I didn't really understand the question either. I know the question definitely mentioned geology, geomorphic processes, and coastal landforms. Hope this helps and someone else can confirm!

It was to what extent! Had to write an opposing argument

I think it was “to what extent does the geology influence the geomorphic processes which shape the coastal landscape”. We didn’t learn about geology in class so I’m cooked

Because there are so little school that does OCR Geography, at least for GCSE. The A Level one was better

is it to what extent. I talked about climate also but included a conclusion that geology is the most important factor. I used dorset.

Based on what everyone said here, I would say one paragraph for, one against, and one somewhat if I have time. This is what I would have said:

Yes, geology does influence the geomorphic processes that influence the formation of coastal landforms: Some geomorphic processes can only take place with certain rock types and can affect the landforms along the coastline. For an arch to become a stack, for example, weathering needs to take place on the top of the arch such as the process of carbonation (part of chemical weathering). This breakdowns the top of arch as even with high wave during a storm, waves are unlikely to affect the arch such that it will turn into a stack. An example of this is for an arch such as Durdle Door to become stack such as Old Harry’s Rock.

No, geology does not influence the geomorphic processes that influence the formation of coastal landforms: Some geomorphic processes can take place regardless of the geology of the coastline. An example of this is the freeze-thaw weathering causing mass movement and can influence the aesthetics of a cliff. This is because any rock type is likely to have crack in them which can become prone to freeze-thaw (part of physical/mechanical weathering) weathering when as long as there is some sort of rainfall occurring along the coast, causing rocks to fall (part of mass movement) making a cliff to retreat over time and can assist the formation of a bay.

Conclusion: Yes to some extent because geology can influence the geomorphic processes that takes place but this is only limited to some geomorphic processes and can upon other factors such as weather.

I would also like to say that this question quite difficult and even I, as an A Level Geographer who had been with OCR since GCSE, would need time to think about this question and think about what to talk about so I don’t think the grade boundaries will be too high if the rest of the paper is of a similar level of difficulty. I also think that we had a similar question in A Level as well in 2019 which was: ‘Geology is the most significant influence on coastal landscapes.’ To what extent do you agree with this statement? and was 16 marks.

You had to write either about headlands and bays and that they are a discordant coastline and caves, arcs, stacks, stumps.

i spoke about formation of headlands and bays and formation of a stump

what did you guys get for the volcanic question and what did you guys write for the 8 marker about field work?

for the volcanic question I wrote about the co2 emission that are released from volcanoes and about how particulates from volcanoes reflect the suns rays causing climate change.
I forgot what I wrote for the fieldwork question ibr but the the paper was ok i think I got a low 9
