my colleague got a secret promotion

Hello, just recently found that my colleague has been secretly promoted and no one has been informed, the way i found out was through some files and put 2 and 2 together. The reason why is that she is very close with the manager and they always gossip about other colleagues etc. The reason why I am upset is that I have applied for promotion two years ago and three people have been promoted after me. I am planning to tell this person that i have heard from someone and confront her and also since she is close to the manager she will definitely let her know. I just want to make a point that they cant get away with stuff like this. And also the role that is given to her is the role my manager used to do so basically like a managerial role and will definitely upset other team members as it shows favouritism. How do i do this?

You'll just look appallingly jealous and toxic,

It's not up to you who they promote and you don't know the full story in any case. you just sound mad that they're pally with the manager and I don't think any of this will be the big 'Gotcha!' moment you seem to think it will. If anything this kind of sneaky and stirring behaviour will demonstrate exactly why not to promote you.

Just let it go.
I was more qualified and experienced than most of my colleagues, yet on four occasions that I applied for promotion, at the interview stage it always went to someone else who obviously performed better than me at that stage. These things happen in all workplaces.

Are you saying the vacancy was not advertised? Does your organisation have these types of merit based promotions?

Did she get a more senior position or just extra pay?

Ive usually worked in public sector environments that have 'open and fair' based recruitment that require full transparency.

Unless you have access to HR or payroll data, how could you know?

Companies don't tend to offer 'time' based promotions. I can see why you are upset at this instance but the other 3 were not promoted 'over' you but instead of you. You should ask for interview feedback and work on your interview skills.
