Hi my daughter is a 4th year as she got first choice. You will have a higher chance when choosing Lancaster as your firm choice, rather than insurance. If its not changed from when we did it you had two choices. choose 1 accommodation choice in 1 college, and another accommodation choice in college number 2,

She went for Grizedale Townhouse /County Townhouse and she got into Grizedale Townhouse. Others did have a mix like Standard Pendle/Superior standard in Bowland, or Ensuite/Cartmel Ensuite/lonsdale etc.
Ensuites are more popular in general due to students wanting privacy, but come second year when you are in a landlord accommodation with friends you will be likely be sharing a bathroom in a house anyway. I know Bowland main which is a standard accommodation (daughter had it during one summer) she had her own washbasin and mirror. And although the bathroom showers were shared, they were very private (not a swimming pool cubicle style that ive seen at other unis)

Ah thanks! That’s good to know. Maybe it’s to with year on year demand and some colleges get more applicants? Or is it more to do with firm or insurance choice? Either way, sounds like at least you get a place somewhere as a first year student. Phew!

Hi @Vida Lein

I would assume that it would depend on how popular that particular room type / college combination is each year. When I applied to accommodation I had to specify two room type college combinations as mentioned by @Ghostlady I choose furness en-suite and grizedale townhouse. I received my first choice and had Lancaster as my firm choice on UCAS.

As an incoming full-time undergraduate, you are guaranteed a place on campus if Lancaster is your firm choice university, you have firmly accepted an offer via UCAS, and you submit your application before 10 August.

I hope that helps!

Thats might be done to accommodation type as well as college. I know the 2020 intake was much less due to the covid restrictions and 2021 was much higher, so a lot of people were getting their second choices. In a way its been a good thing Lancaster was only 2 choices. York I remember was 7 choices and you got one of the 7.Was not ideal when choices 6 and 7 were more expensive as the all the cheaper options were taken up by choices 1 to 5. youngest daughter when she applied to Reading had to choose 5 and there was only a couple of cheap options.

Hi @Vida Lein
When I applied for accommodation at Lancaster, Lancaster was my firm UCAS choice. I received an accommodation offer for my 2nd choice college of Pendle, but I got my 1st choice room type of a shared bathroom.
I think it depends on how many of each room types are located with each college (as i know Pendle has got a lot of shared bathroom). Also, I believe, when you apply for accommodation you also get to select which is the most important factor to you, whether this be college, room type, location on campus ect. so i'd imagine this influences whether you get your 1st choice college.
Hope this helps!
