How difficult is it to get a first class degree, biomedical science student

I am a biomedical science (hons) student, just finished first year. I have done well this year in my opinion. I think my end of year grade is/will be 70+%.

I understand the next 2 years will be much harder and I will most likely do worse, won't be surprised, and my end of year grade will be MUCH lower. But my goal is to graduate with a first class degree.

Are there any other biomedical science students who can provide their input on how difficult it is and what I should do to graduate with this grade. Any tips on how to keep up a good grade/things you wish you knew or did?

I am asking as I really struggled during A Level, keeping up with the workload and i realised how much i struggled after completing the exams. So i want to mentally prepare for the next years during this summer so i don’t repeat the same mistakes

Cheers

Hey I recently just finished my last exams for 3rd year biomedical science and now just waiting for my final degree grade back now. Few things I would mention:

1.

Try not to skip the lecture material and if you can do the lecture material before the scheduled lecture. By this I mean as soon as the new slides are uploaded read the lecture and familiarise yourself with the content so when you go into the lecture it should rather be a recap than learning something new plus. Also do not skip the lecture material or try your best to cover all the lecture material before exams. I know it is easier said than done but the last thing you want is to be re learning the lecture material when you could be spending more valuable time on doing past exams which leads me onto my next point.

2.

Doing past exams. I’m sure you are aware of this but making sure to do past exams. Familiarise yourself with what questions the uni likes to ask and understand what they expect from you in the markscheme.

3.

Wider reading and referencing. As going onto 2nd year i would recommend using reference managers if you don’t do so already as you will be referencing a lot in 2nd and 3rd year. Try to wider read material if you can as examiners appreciate wider reading and great discussion in questions using additional papers to justify your points made.

4.

Don’t hand write notes. If you can try avoid handwriting notes as there is simply to much content. Try using a laptop or iPad and use software like Microsoft one note where you can write notes online and sync them between devices. I personally copied the lecture slides onto my one note and used my iPad to annotate the slides with notes. There are plenty of YouTube videos showing how to use one note for note taking.

Here are a few tips i would recommend when moving onto your 2nd and 3rd year studies. Hope all goes well and good luck with your studies 🙂
