If you get higher than a level predictions, what’s the best next step?

Say you get much higher than your initial predictions, is it better to go through clearing or take a gap year?

Yes, you could find another course/Uni in Clearing. This is not recommandé however as a) its a last minute panic and you may not make the right choice, and end up at a Uni you don't like, and b) you would be at the bottom of the list for accommodation -and don't underestimate how stressful this situation can be.

A better idea is to apply to 5 new choices in a gap-year - having researched what courses/Unis you want slightly more calmly and gone to Open Days etc so that you can make an informed choice.

okay thank you, yeah ive heard clearing should really be a last resort.also, bit unrealated, is it harder to start a year later because most people on the course will be kind of younger??how likely are you to find people in a similar position?

No and no. Hundreds, if not thousands of students each year start a year "later" than their peers.

Once you get to Uni, no-one asks or cares how old you are - and you will be with many people who have taken a gap year or had an even longer education gap.
