Marine Biology Work Experience

Hi,
I’m in Year 12 and I am interested at studying Marine Biology at Uni. The only problem is that I haven’t done any science subjects (I do English Lit, Film Studies and History), but I am aware that I will have to do a foundation year. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where I could do work experience so that it shows that I actually interested in the subject. I have wanted to be a marine biologist since I was a kid, but didn’t really enjoy science at high school which really put me off doing any subjects at A Level.
Thank you in advance

Hi! I'm currently doing a master's in marine vertebrate ecology and conservation and did my undergrad in marine biology, it's a really amazing field to go into!

For my work experience that I did in year 12, I worked with a local conservation group and helped out at their marine centre doing rockpooling activities with kids and outreach/ education things like that and it definitely helped my application when I applied!

So you could see if there's any local conservation groups or a wildlife trust group near you, they very often take on work experience. You could also contact local zoos or aquariums near you and see if they take on people. Hope this helps! - Alicia, University of Exeter Student Ambassador
