Taking a gap year

Hi, I'm currently in year 12 and I do Economics, Maths and Sociology at A-level and I want to pursue doing Economics at university. But even though I haven't started my year 12 mocks, im certain that I am going to get a low predicted grades even if I do well because my unit exams throughout the year haven't been the best. And the unis I want to attend to have high predicted grades of A*AA or AAA. So is it better to take a gap year and reapply if I get those grades in the real A level exams as I don't think they will accept my predicted grades.
Also can i apply to the same uni twice (meaning before when using my predicted grades and after using my real results with a gap year).

Hey @Abdirahman232 🙂 I'd say there's still a value of you applying to university if that's your ultimate goal. Your school/college will have support in place to help students applying to uni, so it's worth going through the process and receiving the guidance that will come with that while it's there. If you end up taking a gap year you might not have the same access to that support with things like personal statements for example (although that's one thing I'd advise you to ask - some schools will be happy to help you during your gap year).

Yes, you could apply to the same uni twice in that scenario 🙂

If you do well on results days and haven't received offers based on your mocks - clearing might be an option. If you're going for courses in pretty high demand however (I'm guessing you might be based on the grade boundaries) then they might not be available in clearing. You can get in touch with your top unis to ask whether they'd be likely to have vacancies available. If clearing isn't an option then gap years are definitely great to boost your CV and gain new skills!
