Some questions on Lancaster accommodation

Hi guys! The Lancaster community seems so amazing. Sooo friendly and positive. Thinking of firming Lancaster for Physics( going to decide very soon as suddenly got an unexpected late offer for Edinburgh and this threw a spanner in the works. Are there any practice rooms, studios etc in colleges for students who don’t study music? - very keen musician (mainly guitars classic and electric) Where do bands gig?
Also in the scenario that Lancaster is insurance instead of firm choice is there still a guarantee of a place in a college? If so, will the choice of college, room type etc be deprioritised and you have to take whatever is left over? Just wondering.
Also for catered halls, when you’re eating at one of the larger places, is it restricted options eg hot breakfast or cereal but not both? I don’t understand the catered hall system too much. It’s a bit different to other universitty catered halls which have their own dining room, right? If any light can be shed on that too it would be great!
Sorry for long post!
Thank you😊😊😊

Hi, my Daughter just firmed physics and she loves live music and has been looking into bands in Lancaster. Seems like a nice vibe for a small town. We are from London.

Hi @Vida Lein

I studied undergraduate physics at Lancaster and I’m be doing a PhD and have really enjoyed my time here.

If you’re interested in music I’d recommend looking up the unis music society. I believe they have an array of instruments and access to practice rooms. https://lancastersu.co.uk/groups/university-of-lancaster-music-society-ulms

Cartmel and pendle colleges should also have music practice rooms. https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/cartmel/facilities/ https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/pendle/college-life/

The uni do not offer a formal guarantee of accommodation to students joining on insurance offers or through clearing, though they can usually accommodate many students in those categories and can advise on alternative options if the need arises.

For catered accommodation you don’t have your own dining halls but have prepaid to eat at certain university owned outlets (barkers house farm, marketplace, the deli or fylde bar). So people who are not catered can still eat here on a pay as you go basis. I’m not sure if you could have both hot and continental breakfast. I’d recommend emailing the accommodation team to check that out with them. [email protected]

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any further questions about life at Lancaster!
