National Youth Theatre Question

I hope someone can help me with this question:

Has anyone got on to NYT only for their course to clash with university? How did you manage this?

Got offered an in person course that takes place every Saturday for 8 weeks in London - thrilled - but I will be at university, over 200 miles away, during most of it. I had selected London summer as my preferences but did not get this and I don't want to reject it and go on a reserve list as I have seen that most people on reserve don't get a place. Thinking I will just try to come back for those 8 weekends (expensive!!).

Does anyone have experience of this?
How did you find it?
Were NYT understanding/supportive?

Any advice, insight or sharing of your experience would be really welcome.

Thank you!

Good morning,
I’m afraid I don’t have any advice, but was wondering what course you have been given? My daughter has also got into NYT and has been assigned the senior course in Leeds she’s 18. Dates 5th -21st August. This clashes with something and she’s wanting to change to one of london weekend courses in September, October, November. I’m wondering if you are on one of these if we could speak to NYT and get you both swapped? Thanks

Hi

It's my daughter, too! I am researching stuff for her, so she can concentrate on A level exams!

It's the January and February weekend course, so probably won't suit your daughter. We will do the treck back and forth for a couple of months as she would rather do London than other locations.

It looks like if you don't accept what you're given, you go on the reserve list and looking at the message boards, hardly anyone moves off the reserve. She'll be 18, so in senior 18-25 category, and doesn't want to risk it.

Hi, Thanks for your reply!
Yes Im doing exactly the same for my daughter, shes also doing her A levels!
Ah ok no problem, its a hard decision for her as she's got a part in a play at The Edinburgh Fringe at the same time!
Good luck to your daughter and hope she has a great time.

Oh wow, that's brilliant and a very difficult decision!

When my daughter's drama teacher heard about NYT, she thought it was NYT or drama school (Acting Foundation) and she said NYT over drama school! My daughter can do both but it'll be a tiring 2 months (7 days a week of actor training for 8 weeks!) but that's life sometimes! Looks like I'll have an 8 hour round trip drive on Sunday nights for 8 weeks too! We'll make it work somehow! 🙃
