Orthoptics Vs Optometry

Hi, i need some advice.
I received an Honours degree offer from UHI for BB in optometry and I applied for optometry in GCU but got an unconditional for Orthoptics instead (Honours).
The issue is that I really don't know which course I should accept because i really want to do optometry but im not sure if il be able to meet the requirements. My predicted grades were good but i always end up doing not so great on the exam no matter how well my assessments are.
If i were to end up choosing the unconditional for Orthoptics would i be able to transition to optometry for second year? Or if i finish the Orthoptics course and mabye then do a higher degree in Optometry?
Im really stuck on what to pick because i REALLY REALLY want to do optometry but im not sure if il do well on the exam but i got an unconditional for a different course which is slightly similar.
Do i make some sacrifices or should i just risk it????

Hi,
I’d consider doing the optometry foundation year or chose the optometry as your firm and orthoptics as your insurance. That way if you don’t get into optometry as your firm, you have the optics orthoptics course already there.

Also which university offered you optometry?

So I did exactly that, I put optometry (offered by Inverness UHI) as my firm and orthoptics as my insurance.
The issue is now that the university for optometry is like 4 hours away so I need to move out but it's like £600 a month for the uni accommodation which is really pricy.
I also get sick so easily and really prone to migraines so I decided with the suggestion of others to just go to Glasgow Caledonian for orthoptics and just try to transfer course to optometry after the first semester. Its a huge risk but thankfully the courses are similar so it should be okay.
I just need to somehow switch my insurance and firm choice cuz if I get the grades for my firm choice then I'd have to get into my insurance choice, which I want, through clearing.
Lol I just checked and ucas says I only have until the 25th of july
