Clearing University of Sheffield

Hi, I currently have a space with Uni of York but due to health problems it’s been advised I stay close to home in Sheffield.
I had a conditional offer of ABB with York and I strangely achieved A*AC with the A* in Biology A in Psychology and C in English literature - I had an awful day in that exam

Wondering what clearing is for Uni of Sheffield for Biology if anyone knows. I know the regular grades is AAA but I was wondering if AAB / ABB clearing maybe I have a chance to get in ?

Thanks. I suspected that might be the course you meant, but the grade requirements didn't tally either. You've said above that, "I know the regular grades is AAA" but according to their web site they want AAB (source).

So if it's in Clearing, it's highly likely they'll accept AAB! :smile:

I don't suppose you did an EPQ did you? The standard offer drops to ABB if you get at least B in the EPQ.

Having said that, you say that you have "a conditional offer of ABB with York", and conditional offers suggest predicted grades. However, you then say, "I strangely achieved A*AC". Hence it's not clear what you're applying with predicted or achieved grades.

I can't confirm whether or not Sheffield went into Clearing for that specific course (Biological Sciences BSc, C100) last year - but I can tell you that for the set of courses which fit into the category called "Biological and Sports Sciences", Sheffield accepted 255 students last year, of which 15 gained their place either via Extra or Clearing. That would suggest that if Biological Sciences BSc went into Clearing, then there were very few spaces available.

It's worth noting that UCAS Search shows that this course is still accepting applications. (Although universities sometimes forget to tells UCAS when a course closes to new applications) It might be worth calling up the uni and seeing if they're still accepting applications. If they are, then you could theoretically decline the offers you have and apply to Sheffield via Extra. That's a bit of a gamble though, as they might not make you an offer you, and then you'd be nowhere. :frown:

Just remember that for Clearing places you are usually not guaranteed University accommodation.
With the current shortages of accommodation, this is now an important consideration for anyone relying on Clearing.

For University of Sheffield specifically, this doesn't look like it would be an issue. They say here (still with last year's date) that, "If you accept an offer through Confirmation and Clearing by 31 August 2023, we'll guarantee you accommodation in University accommodation. You must apply by 31 August 2023 to ensure that you get your place reserved."
