Natural sciences degree

Hi, just wondering how much lab time there is in the first year? Not the biggest fan of being in the lab. Thanks

Hi, I'm also a prospective natural sciences student, and I would recommend checking the website of the uni which you wish to go to in the first instance, to see their curriculum in the first year.

Hi, this is very dependent on the specific university, so can I ask which university you will be studying Natural Sciences at?

Hi!

I'm Oliver and a fourth year natural sciences student studying chemistry and biochemistry pathways. In first year your lab time will very much depend on your pathway choices. For me, in my first year, every 5 weeks I had about 3 labs for chemistry and 1 or 2 labs for biochemistry with each lab being around 4 hours long. This generally worked out to be about one lab a week but occasionally I'd have a chemistry lab and a biochemistry lab in the same week. However, other pathways may be less lab intensive and have less lab time so it's worth contacting the departments of the pathways you're considering. In any case though, first year labs are all about getting to grip with all the new techniques so there is always lots of support available and you often will work in pairs in order to help each other out and get to know each other.

I hope that is helpful and feel free to ask me any other questions.
