Uni of Leeds vs Newcastle University

I’ve got an offer from both for Economics and Finance with study abroad. I can’t decide which uni to pick. I have visited both places and kinda liked Newcastle as a city more than Leeds. Both are campus unis and I’ll be living on campus. I’m looking for one with good reputation for my future and also good nightlife and social life. I like to go out basically every day and party a lot as well

I like that Newcastle has very good nightlife and social life with so many clubs, bars and pubs and isn’t full of posh private skl students
Con: I’m from London so it’s very far and it’s also very cold haha. Lower ranked for my course (25th in the UK for econ and finance)

Leeds: very well known with good nightlife too.
Higher ranked (11th in the UK)
One of the top unis targeted by employers so might have good employability prospects
Cons: might be full of posh people or private skl students, also when I visited I saw a LOT of crazy people and there’s lots of charvas and seen a few fights there

Both are Russel group and both offer similar modules, however in Leeds I have to do a dissertation in last year but in Newcastle I don’t, I can chose 50 credits to study and do exams or do a dissertation.

Also I don’t enjoy maths so Id prefer to pick the one that isn’t so mathsy

hi, what did you end up choosing?

Don't pick your university based on perceived reputation. It has almost no value. People don't choose you because of where you went. They pick you because of what you did / can do, the focus being on you, not on where.

Both are good universities. Both are good party towns. If you prefer Newcastle, do that. I would however suggest you consider the tutors, teaching staff, facilities, opportunities for study overseas / placement years. After all, these are the things that will actually make a tangible difference to your outcomes.

Good luck!
