Minimum requirements - scottish highers

Hi, as a background I'm sitting 5 SQA highers this year. 3 are humanities including english and the other two are maths and physics.

I'n not expecting particularly good grades in either mathsy subject - C's or a B if I'm lucky. I guess I was lured into a false sense of security by the Nat 5s
I expect to get A's and maybe a B in my other subjects. For talking's sake lets say I get AAACC overall.

For example, The history course at Glasgow Uni says that their minimum in s5 to be reviewed for an s6 offer is BBBB: https://www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/degrees/history/

Would I expect to be eligible to be reviewed for an offer with AAACC considering I've taken 5 instead of four and (hopefully) get good grades in the other humanity subjects?
Tldrl; can i be in the running for a course requiring BBBB if I get AAACC?

If there's a better place for this kind of question please direct me!

Thanks for reading and sorry if this was convoluted.

Hi there,

It's great to hear you're interested in studying here at UofG!

When it comes to our entry requirements the following apply:

Where stated, the S5 Entry Requirements are a guide to the minimum grades required by the end of S5 to be considered for an offer

The S6 Entry Requirements represent the cumulative / final grades required by the end of S6 to be considered for an offer.

Applicants must also meet any Additional Requirements listed (subject requirements / admissions tests / work experience / interviews / pre-entry programme) in order to be considered

All students must have obtained at least four different Highers.

So in the example of the History programme you've provided, All applicants must have a minimum of BBBB by the end of S5. All applicants then must have AAAAA collectively by the end of S6. Applicants must meet both requirements in each year in order to be considered.

I hope this has helped clarify but if there's anything else I can help with. Please just let me know 😀

Thanks,

Hi, I appreciate the reply 😄

So to be clear, would AAACC in S5 meet the BBBB requirement for consideration?

Thank you 🙏

Hi there,

Unfortunately I'm only able to provide general advice about admissions, but I can hopefully point you in the right direction!

I would recommend either getting in touch with the School of Humanities directly by email:
[email protected]

Or submitting an enquiry to our admissions enquiry team on the website:
University of Glasgow - Study - Enquire

Hopefully this way you will be able to receive some more personalised guidance from the people who are experts in this area.

All the best,
Elise, 1st Year

Hi there,

Unfortunately, AAAC would not meet the BBBB requirements. We require applicants to hold a minimum of B across 4 higher subjects. As grade C is below this, it would not be considered, and be outweighed by grade 'A' in another higher.

Thanks,
