Hi there,

I thought I'd just give you some insight into my experience at Hallam!

Firstly, for accommodation, there are loads of options which are nice and modern and also well priced! There are lots of options and I would recommend seeing what campus you will be studying at and then basing your accommodation choice off this as it is handy choosing one which is close to your campus! Some are more sociable than others so it's worth looking into this too and then picking one based on whether you prefer to be in a more or less sociable accommodation.

I have found the teaching to be great too. I am doing a business course so the tutors will be different but in general I have found them to all be really helpful and you can tell that they genuinely want you to do well which is really encouraging! They are also really good at answering your questions when you need help and I have been able to have meetings with them before which has been really helpful. Something else I like about the teaching at Hallam is that the seminar classes are fairly small which has been good to get to know the people in my classes and it also means the tutors have lots of time to help you and make sure you know what you are doing!

You also get three different advisors while you are at Hallam - an academic advisor, a student support advisor and an employability advisor which is really handy as they are there to answer your questions and help you with anything you need help with! You also get to know them which helps too!

There are also lots of part time job opportunities here too. As it is a big city, there are loads of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops which are great places for getting part time jobs and Hallam is also good for offering campus jobs to students which is what I have and it is a great job as it is so flexible and you are never expected to miss uni!

You can also talk to current students on our ambassador platform here: https://www.shu.ac.uk/study-here/student-chat and they may be able to help you with some other questions that you might have!

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador
