Business Examples Portfolio
In exam questions, particularly 25 mark questions and questions with dodgy words like ALL BUSINESSES - you need to have a range of business / industry examples to show application. I have started a list of below, of some recent businesses that we have looked at or that may be useful for different questions. Please add more in the chat below, so we can build a good portfolio.

Google innovate culture 20% time for employees own projects
Apple highly skilled R&D team / highly differentiated product / high market share / high perceived added value / USP / cash cows I phone / mac supports rising stars like I watch / apple vision

Honda closed car manufacturing site in 2019 3,500 job losses / Kizen
Mini started production of the electric mini in 2020 / JIT ? customisation

Amazon diversification from market place to technology Alexa / Amazon Fire
Ikea hybrid low value/ high perceived added value for design / diversification into Hotels Moxy Hotel / synergy as working with Marriot Hotel

Sainsburys / Argos - Integration - Conglomerate take over / synergy as Argos is now in Sainsburys stores and using Sainsburys distribution channels for click and collect

ONE water social enterprise business giving money from sales to developing countries for clean water supplies.
Patagonia - social enterprise clothing brand
Lego - produce same amount of renewable energy that they use in production to off set the use of non-renewable energy
Tom's Shoes -give a pair of shoes to developing counties for every shoe they sell - one for one model / give a third of profits to grassroots enterprises.

Lush - environmentally conscious brand. It invented the first solid shampoo bar and offers packaging-free products in-store. It is also in the process of eliminating palm oil from its products.

The Body Shop - retrenchment, shrinking the business to make it more efficient / could also link to strategic drift as they did not respond to the trend in the market and have lost their competitive advantage through product as too many other competitors in market using different distribution methods.

Coca Cola - market development - product portfolio development with different flavours and sugar free drinks. horizontal integration - taken over Seven Up, Smart Water, Costa Coffee, Innocent

Star Alliance - a group of airlines working as an alliance to gain economies of scale and market share
